Background

The Beaver platform is a collaborative management tool based on Saas that allows users to share and manage documents efficiently in one place.

What is the project about?

The aim of this project was to design the major user flows, creating a easy to use experience for colleagues to create and search specific documents such as managing works, updating work statuses, identifying utilize fonts, and communicating with other team members. A unique challenge was to create two user scenarios for micro interaction design, aimed at demonstrating the product to developers and other stakeholders. My colleague and I addressed these needs by mapping out the entire design process and component implementation based on requirements, delivering an intuitive and accessible experience.

What was the business impact?

My fellow designer and I delivered the final designs and prototypes to our clients. The presentation was a success, and they received positive feedback, leading to gain funds in the project.

What was my contribution?

As a UI and interaction designer, I led the entire interaction process from scratch, exploring different layouts and phase of interaction in users’s shoes. Also, I suggested what design activities should be advocated for users.

Reflection

01 If I had more time...

Conduct more user research

• Due to the time and budget constraint, I relied on the research provided by product manager when designing the project. Unfortunately, I had no opportunity to conduct in-depth user interview. However, I gained more knowledge in UX research after this project. If I had more time, I would have executed A/B testing and both qualitative and quantitative surveys to further enhance the project.

Focus on enhancing accessibility

• I was unable to prioritize accessibility during the initial stages of the design process. However, I added it in the middle of process such as assessing colors contrast. I have learned that it should’ve been considered at the beginning of the design. Next time, I would like to conduct usability testing with a diverse range of individuals with various disabilities to ensure the accessibility of the design.

02 Key Takeaways

Create a conducive conversational environment for collaboration

• Since it was a team project, I worked on it with other designer. However, we had a lot of different ideas with designs such as grid, components, spacing etc. However, we eventually came up with the optimal ideas that we could move forward with after meeting with product manager and going through a lot of talks, which allowed me to have better understanding of the product and prioritize and specify what each steps of the design should be designed efficiently.
